The Blue Agave: The Ultimate L.A. Soundtrack

If Hollywood ever sets a James Bond movie in L.A., The Blue Agave should perform the all music. Indeed, their cover of “Besame Mucho” would make a killer 007 opening credit sequence.

The Blue Agave album

The ultimate L.A. soundtrack.

The Blue Agave’s eponymous debut album takes you on a sonic cruise across Los Angeles: primarily Spanish vocals amidst layers of surf guitar, retro lounge, mariachi, and killer rhythms. As The Blue Agave describe themselves, “sexy, soulful atmospheric originals blending surf, spaghetti western and flamenco.”

I first saw the band perform last year and have been playing their album nonstop since (good thing digital music doesn’t wear out). The band’s talent and musical expertise certainly warrant it. Guitarist/composer Andy Abad also teaches music at USC (Fight on!). And lead vocalist Stephanie Amaro de Abad also performs in the Grammy-nominated, all-female mariachi band Trio Ellas.

If you’re ever in L.A., catch them live, when they sound every bit as polished and thrilling as they do in the studio, shaking rafters and stirring audiences every time.

Let’s hear it for uncommon sense: that inner itch that inspires us to stray from the herd, ditch the training wheels, and leap into the fast lane. After all, it’s the risk takers who get featured and interviewed. No one ever remembers who won “honorable mention.” And in today’s saturated marketspaces, the greatest risk is taking no risk at all.

So whether you’re seeking enlightenment or just entertainment, pull up an Eames, pour yourself a cold one, and enjoythe latest uncommon sense — and our 2 cents — from Atomic Tango Founder & Professor Freddy Tran Nager and friends. Our 300+ posts are sometimes serious, satirical, skeptical, even silly, but never stale.
