They say there are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. They forgot an important 3rd certainty:

Hot sauce makes everything better.

In the last few years, hot sauce has become trendier than teeny doggies and kale smoothies. The fiery classics like Tabasco, Tapatio, and Cholula have been lurking in your breakfast burritos for a while, but another spicy sidekick has caused an even bigger blaze.

If you’ve never heard of Sriracha, shame on you. If you’ve never tried Sriracha, quit reading this and zip your ass to the store immediately. In fact, Sriracha is so good, you can now find it in popcorn, potato chips, chocolate, candy canes, even fashion. But the best place Sriracha has wound up? In cocktails.

You’ll find one such magical concoction at Formosa Cafe, the classic Hollywood landmark, which recently rolled out a new drink menu by head bartenders Alex Goode and Morrison Nichols. (More about what makes Goode a liquor ninja here.) My fave intoxicant created by these master mixologists will literally make your mouth water.

The Crying Tiger

1.75 ounces tequila
.75 ounces lime juice
.75 ounces agave syrup (1:1 water)
5 drops Sriracha
1 pinch cilantro

Voila! Prepare your tastebuds for a spicily tart dose of deliciousness.

Let’s hear it for uncommon sense: that inner itch that inspires us to stray from the herd, ditch the training wheels, and leap into the fast lane. After all, it’s the risk takers who get featured and interviewed. No one ever remembers who won “honorable mention.” And in today’s saturated marketspaces, the greatest risk is taking no risk at all.

So whether you’re seeking enlightenment or just entertainment, pull up an Eames, pour yourself a cold one, and enjoythe latest uncommon sense — and our 2 cents — from Atomic Tango Founder & Professor Freddy Tran Nager and friends. Our 300+ posts are sometimes serious, satirical, skeptical, even silly, but never stale.

by Kim Tronic, Resident Cocktail Mistress… Today we’re gonna bend the rules a bit. Instead of bringing you a martini recipe, I want to scribble outside the lines and share something (gasp!) different. And yes, it’s served on the rocks. I’ve always been a fan of copper: it makes for interesting jewelry, strong plumbing pipes, […]

by Kim Tronic, Resident Cocktail Mistress… If I invited you out for a drink at some local saloon, what would you envision? Gun holsters, swinging doors, and horses waiting outside? How about a pub? Do you immediately get a craving for fish ‘n chips and a nice frosty pint? And really, is there a difference […]

by Kim Tronic, Resident Cocktail Mistress… I’m no fan of hotel bars in Los Angeles — too much pretension and plastic surgery. But when a friend brought me to The Culver Hotel, my apprehension melted away. Filled with locals and tourists, the lobby bar welcomes its customers with a flowing serenade of jazz tunes by […]
