Many marketers get called “rock stars” — though most are more Milli Vanilli than Mick Jagger. Then there’s Bobby Borg, who is literally a rock star in the field…
A former member of the bands Warrant, Beggars & Thieves, and Left For Dead, the Berklee College of Music grad just received his Master of Communication Management degree from USC (where I teach) — though he could have taught most of the courses himself.
Drawing on his 35 years in the industry, Bobby currently teaches music business at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood and UCLA Extension. He consults record labels and music supervisors. And — a true multimedia artist — he creates books and videos on marketing for musicians.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with Bobby on his vodcast (video podcast) about competition. Since he was the host, he mostly asked questions, but I can tell you that he already knows the answers. I had a blast sharing the stage with him. Take a look and a listen…

Freddy, this is fantastic! Great opportunity for you, and you were firing on all cylinders. Really one of the best things you’ve done, great exposure for you, too. I especially enjoyed your point about how mainstream success imposes limitations, which translates to opportunities for competitors with a lower profile. Really happy for your success here– congrats and well done! ?
Wow, thank yo, Mark! I’ve never been super comfortable on camera, but Bobby is a great host.
